How It Works

How It Works

The programs involve three separate stages, which are carried out by respected community service agencies, (such as EASE) and building contractors under the utilities supervision. These agencies and businesses have been carefully screened to provide the best possible customer service.

The 3 Stages are:

Outreach and Assessment

Finding out if a customer is eligible for the Program, and checking the customer's home to be sure it is feasible to install specific measures. (For example, if a replacement refrigerator won't fit into the space in an eligible customer's kitchen, it's not feasible for SCE to install it.)

  • All customers must provide proof of income.
  • Homeowners must provide proof of ownership.
  • Renters must obtain the owner's written permission.

Service Delivery

The California Public Utilities Commission requires installers to:

  • Meet or exceed existing codes and regulations, and
  • Follow accepted building practices.

Inspection

Inspecting customer homes after service delivery to be sure the measures will work properly and that the contractor has performed well. If it is not up to standard, the contractor has to repair or redo the installation at no cost to the customer.
